READING Isaiah 9:2-7

Over and over again, God had shown His faithfulness to the Israelites – and over and over again, they had turned away. But instead of throwing up His hands in exasperation, God gave prophetic voices to several of His people, to keep His covenant ever before the Israelites. Even though God let the Israelites make their own choices and live through the consequences, He had still devised a plan for their ultimate rescue. His great love for His people has kept Him constantly pursuing us, through our reckless behavior, through our denial, through our running in the opposite direction. Unto us, His child was born and unto us, His Son was given – and even here and now, we can begin to know the eternal peace and order that only the Son can bring.

The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
    on them has light shone.
