READING Luke 2:41-52
We get a very limited picture of Jesus’ life between his birth and the beginning of His ministry. The thirty years in between these events were not just a period of waiting, however – a pause until the real work would start. Instead, Jesus used this time to do what all of us should do – grow. He expanded the boundaries of His mind through study. He took care of His physical body so that He could grow healthy and strong. He treated others with kindness and respect, and most importantly, He didn’t let the fact that He was the Son of God stop Him from spending time with God. He didn’t coast by, waiting for some future time so His life and ministry could “really start.” He took advantage of the waiting and prepared His heart, mind, and body for the onslaught of joy and pain that He knew was on its way. He ordered His life in a way that prepared Him for the life-changing work He was on earth to do, and that commitment to order still helps us to remit our chaos.
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.
